Hi guys - maybe a long shot, but, does any one know how much Seat dealers (Arnold Clark, Edinburgh to be specific) charge to supply and fit a set of front brake pads on an 04 LCR? - if no one knows that ok, I`ll just wait till Monday to phone them - and would I be better to take the chance and buy a set of uprated pads ie Ferodos? - thanks guys:)

Think you're looking around £180. £130 for the pads and £50 labour.
Get the Ferrodo Ds2500 off Badger Bill and take them to an independant. Should save yourself a few notes.

basic repairs and maintenance used to be virtually a given when I learned to drive 12 years ago (listen to me, I sound fookin like one of them fools from last of the summer wine) anyway, simple tasks like airfilters, brake pads and discs, exhaust patches should be given during driving instruction (if even a media presentation on the basics) dealers are ripping the piss out of labour charges and a lot of people are too scared to try and fix THEIR own car.

I'm not a fan of changing my own pads/discs but reading over such guides on this site, on pabs site and others I have stripped down the brakes on my car and its dead easy. As long as you follow precautions on the guides such as holding up the caliper to not stretch the hose you should be fine. It will help save on labour costs.

fronts are straight forward... DIYable for the competant.. however these are you r brakes at the end of the day so if any doubt use a competant mechanic.

rears are more of a pain due to the design of the caliper and the wind back requirement on the piston. (proper tool req'd to do the job properly)

Bleeding of these.... I would only advise pressure bleeding personally. (too many master cylinder issues and air entrapment on old skool up-down method)

LCR DS2500 Ferodo's £90+ vat and delivery

Found both OMP and Mintex pads for much cheapness through an ebay shop - probably go for a set of these - I know you get what you pay for but not prepared to pay 100 quid plus - my own fault for buying a fancy car then:whistle: - needs new tyres next aswell:blink: .

I was asking about dealer prices because my car is going in to have the airbag switch replaced and the brake pad wear indicator came on yesterday, so i was thinking, kill two birds with one stone, but not at the prices talked about!

Vtec, don't skimp on brakes mate, you are worth more than £100 for a set of decent pads. Its false economy getting cheap stuff anyway, it rarely performs as well and doesn't last as long.

it never fails to astound me why people buy cheap pads on cars with high performance power and braking.

you do get what you pay for.

where abouts in fife are you mate, your best bet is to give star performance in kirkcaldy a ring, VW audi SEAT tuner, i got my rears done with them last month and it only cost me 125 quid for a 30,000 mile service and rear pads supplied and fitted. obviously front pads are more expensive but they'd still be a lot cheaper than going to a main dealer. ARNOLD CLARK wanted to charge me about 200 quid for pads fitted to my ibiza cupra sport ! they really are useless as well, you just pay through the nose going to them. sod that. give jim an e-mail at www.starperformance.co.uk, or get the phone number from the web page and phone him directly, he really is great to talk to and knows his stuff as well if not better than anyone in the uk. by the way i don't work for star or anything, i'm just another satisfied customer who believes in credit where its due and if you do go there you'll go back every time.don't use cheap brakes mate, they could be the difference between life and death in a car with this kind of power. :drive2:
