OK Folks

Friday is the big day and I'll be picking up my 04 LCR from IMG SEAT in Warrington.

It doesnt' need an official service (22K miles on the clock, service was done early at 17000 miles), but the dealer agreed to change the Oil and filter before giving it to me.

So the question is, how can I really tell if they actually did change the oil and filter? Do I take a look at the dipstick and see if the oil is clean or looks dirty?

Saying that I've never had a performance car before so I don't actually know what modern synthetic oil looks like "clean". I'm used to the new colour of the 15w/40 cabbage oil that goes in the wifes punto!

Any pointers?

I just don't want them to get one over on me.....

Thats no way to talk about main dealer staff !

Ask to see the job card and obtain specific confirmation of the work that has been done ( for future reference )

As above... ask them to give you a copy of the job card and ideally invoice 'for your records' to show it's been done. It's good to have anyway, as a nice and full service history proves a car's been looked after, but it's also a way of finding out what has or hasn't been done.

That aside, when you pick it up just have a good nose around the car, inside and out. Look for any scratches, dents and dings. Look for anything that wasn't there the last time you saw it, check the mileage, make sure the spare wheel and all the tools and bits that goes with it is there. Check the manual and all other paperwork is supplied with the car. But other than that, just enjoy it :D
