Hi guys

So I had some fully adjustable coilovers and 20mm rear wheel spacers fitted to my 2004 ibiza cupra 180 on weds (28th oct) by a vag specialist nr Cambridge way (40mins drive away and with work commitments I can not get back to them). On leaving the garage all was good - no scrubbage, whining noises, clonking etc.

Over the past few days i have acquired a rather loud whinning noise when about to hit full lock on the drivers side and just before (turning right that is), the noise seems to have got a little worse since the above was fitted and with the car put into Grants, Braintree on fri 30th for the free 5hr Revo Map the noise seems to have become a little louder.

And to go with the winning noise i have noticed clonking and a form of rubbing noise (altough it is not the wheel on the arch and there is plenty of clearence with the coilovers as i did not go silly low) - to describe it it happens at low speeds when turning, going down a kerb and it feels like a loose topmount, bolt missing, something loose, although on inspection theres nothing visibally wrong.

Using the search facility the answers seem to vary, i know i need to check the power steering fluid level firstly, but being a novice i can not locate it, any help info etc would be great guys.

Nick :)

hi its sounds like your anti roll bar is rubbing on the track control arm if you look at the track control arm you should see a rubber mark about half way along, its a common fault with that shape ibiza, you need to replace the anti roll bar and the bushes and this should sort it.

I have the same problem, mine has had the new anti roll bar and cupra bushes fitted. No difference, zero. I have a low speed "clunk" when turning or going over rough ground, and a definite steering rack "rattle" also at low speed. This can be felt through the wheel and the pedals. Been to Grants at Braintree who were worse than useless, literally looked at it for 5 mins then said "yeh its fine gov, nothing we can do". Now booked in at Marshalls in Camb', they have been good so far but looking at car next week. The worst bit is most dealers act suprised when you say you have an Ibzia making funny noises!

UPDATE: So the ibiza paid a visit to my local garage (not stealers) to get fixed

£498.38 later and my problems are still not cured

The car also benefited with a full service at the time which inc all filters, oil, sparks etc

I was told i needed new heavy duty topmounts as my other ones were shot to pieces (due to the bearings missing and general wear and tear), these alone cost £86.13 and I also had 2 heavy duty VW/Seat bearing rings added @ £30.40.

It seems to have cured half the problem; the power steering winneee has gone aswel as the clonking which came from the suspension turrets.

However I still have an annoying tapping/rattling creaky noise at low speeds (between 1mph and say 15mph) and when i go over uneven surfaces such as speed bumps, cobbled streets etc.

Question is what is there that would need to maybe be replaced in order to solve the problem (the car is lowered on coilovers) i've heard maybe amy anti-roll bar and busches?? but the noise ONLY comes from the front right drivers side suspension area.

Anu idead would be great guys TIA

Get underneath and have a look at the Front Wishbone Bushes.

I was having similar clunky noises at similar speeds.
My car has only done 43k and it's a 1.2.
This was my front right bush when it came off....

This is what it should look like...

Best adivce on here (which I didn't follow for £ reasons) is to buy the Cupra Bushes aas they are much more solid and should last a lot longer.

If you go to that page and click the large view of the car diagram on the top right of the page they are marked with an arrow as item number 2.

Sorry to hi-jack, But mine has been rattling on cobbed or rough surface when i am turning left or right, Could this be the ARB mounts gone, Cant hear it anyother time, Just when driving slowish speeds going left or right onto a cobbed street near me.

PS, Already had the Cupra bushes fitted a while back.

A quick word on those suspension bush pictures
1) They are not the same bush - the same is difference and so is the part number
2) The top bush doesn't look in poor condition.
The areas where the rubber is torn are rubber flashing from the molding process.
It is designed to have voids in those areas to give the required characteristics.
If the bush were in poor condition the main rubber parts would have one or more cracks in them which the bush in the pisture doesn't appear to have.

BTW my first post, hello everyone!

1) you are correct, the newer bush is the newer "four arm" version.

2) you are also correct in that most of the "torn" areas are waste rubber in the voided areas, but I think that in this case, the poster has picked pictures from one of his earlier postings and has not picked a picture that should clearly show the torn web.

BTW hello and welcome!

BTW my first post, hello everyone!

The bush in the my post was well an truely gubbed, although you can't see it but the circular part in the middle was split at one side and I could pull it free with my fingers, the bolt had left marks on the wishbone of the car it had been free to move that much.
This is the one that HAD to be replaced, the other wasn't as bad for whatever reason, since replacing them I no longer hear the constant knocking and banging I had before.
The design of the bush pictured first in the post above is just plain stupid in my opinion, there is no way that after 40k I should be able to move it about with my finger.
When I get some more time the bushes I've just put on will be taken out and put in the bin along with every other bush on the car and they will be replaced with solid bushes as I as fed up being able to hear every single crack in the road surface. I have no tolerance for faults on my car, anything that might be doubtful is replaced immediately, which reminds me, I haven't serviced the car since this time last year, so I'll need to get that done soon!
