potential ECU problem

hello all, my ongoing problem with my TDI:help: se alhambra diesel is not going away at the moment, its going into limp mode at around 2600 revs, the seat dealers think its time for a new turbo or a faulty ECU, could i please ask if anyone has any experience of an ECU breaking down on their car and the symptoms that it produced. just to add to my confusion yesterday the voltmeter on the dash started to read 11 volts for a while and then went to zero volts, alternator i thought and perhaps the root of all my problems, today the pesky thing is reading a healthy 14.5 volts again, i have cleaned the earth cable where it bolts onto the engine which was very grubby so i dont know if this has helped matters. has anyone had an ECU tested or repaired by seat or an independent?

cheers

given half a chance they allways think it's something expensive, at your expense, the earlier ecu's had an internal maf fed by a small rubber pipe which perished inside but can be replaced, check to see if your's has a pipe to it, I would hunt down all earths to clean and then check the tubo for sticksion or faulty rubber pipes, ecu checking is probably best done by a specialist IE: not the dealer
