Hi all looking for some advice, recently purchased a MK2 seat Leon Cupra the car drives well pulls in all the gears and doesn't have any audible knocks and bangs coming from the engine, the only notable problem being the clutch pedal sometimes not immediately returning up after changing gear however the car would still drive till you either pushed it up manually or it would spring back into place I assumed this would only be something clutch related but was unsure. With this in mind I took it to an Rtech garage for a health check which they didn't complete as they claimed the car has crank walk, im taking it to get a second opinion but if this is the case is there anything that can be done to rectify the problem as it is not suffering from any knocks or bangs so if it is crank walk can you catch it early enough to do something? Or if anyone has experienced a similar scenario have any advice?
TIA

Hey, my mate had the same issue and symptoms with his Cupra R. Rang R-Tech and they also said they would not work on the car due to crank walk. Car was then booked in with Midland VW, Dean an employee mentioned the engine could be damaged to the point of it being scrapped. But, they had taken the sump and oil pump off to inspect damage and to my mates relief they were able to install thrust washers to resolve the issue. This process had taken a while as the machine shop they use were super busy with other work - car was with Midland VW for 2 months. Just an FYI, stay away from anything that isn't a TTRS clutch as anything else will cause this crank walk issue and try not to drive the car as this will cause more damage.

Thankyou this is useful information as I really haven't been able to find to much info on this topic I'm going to wait till I get the second opinion but may check the crank and thrust bearings myself before hand as cant get it in till next week anyway, car isn't being driven as I figured if something was wrong probably best to avoid making it worse.
