Possible Big Problem???

Hi,

Not sure if this is a serious problem or not, having a feeling it might be!!!

Have an 05 Cupra R currently on about 19.5K. A few months ago, I thought it may have been burning too much oil is the tail pipe was looking really black. Dropped it into SMC Exeter, they advised not to drive it until they have checked it.

They checked it and performed 20K service (was on 16.5K) couldn't find a problem.

Anyway, a couple weeks later, I looked under the bonnet, and it looked like a ring of oil had formed around the filler cap. I didn't do anything at this stage, thinking it may have been a spillage when they did the oil.

I have looked again tonight, as there seemed bit of a smell (can't describe it) The ring had formed again, and felt a bit damp around the filler cap.

Also, a couple weeks ago, I checked the oil, and I has appeared to have dropped to not much above the min level. Surely this isn't right if the oil was done only 3k ago???

Currently, not sure if its the weather, but there does appear to be a bit of smoke out the exhaust, cannot tell the colour as its too dark.

Has anyone else had anything similar?? Am a bit concerned, gonna take into Carshop, Yeovil in the next day or so?

Thanks
Chris

What colour is the oil ring? Just regular oil, or is it a creamy/custard type colour and consistancy that might point towards water/oil mixture. Have a look at your water level - is it correct, and what does the water look like?

Get someone to hold a white cloth over the exhaust and give it a few revs - see what, if any, colour is left on the cloth.

My exhaust tip does go black over time, most peoples's will - its a fuel thing and it shouldn't be oily.

Mine had a slight ring of oil round the filler cap. Noticed it when I got the car, took the cover off and cleaned it up a bit and it's not returned. Preumed it was SEAT monkeys when they did the service.

My car has used a bit of oil, but it's bang on in the middle the min and max marks after about 5000miles so not much at all really.

My tailpipe does blacken up a bit after about 500-1000miles, I've never owned a car (petrol or diesel) that doesn't to some extent.
