Hi guys, firstly Ive searched but havnt really found an answer.. after watching top gear recently where they tried modding a renault avanitme they claimed a large bhp increase (to get the car back to the listed bhp), by getting a new inlet (among other little bits) So my point i guess is, do you think it's worth doing similar or getting the head ported and has anyone done this? If so how much was it?
Cheers

:shrug:I kno wht ur sayin mate, iv seen that top gear episode, it's ur choice really whether u do it or not but i wouldn't expect massive gains in bhp from it. don't know how old your car is but doubt it's still got the same bhp as it did when it was new anyway

I was quoted for a head port and polish with with a fast road cam install and cam belt change £1k. I know dinky dave paid £2k for the 268 cam with port and polished head too.

get ur car rolling roaded, mine was 158bhp standard..... that's 8bhp above Seat figures after 6-7 years then.

That programme of top gear was full of cr@p I reckon and portable rollers aren't the best!

yeah i get what you mean, but surely as they did their first RR on there, then re-RR'd it, so the gains should be the same (maybe not at 220bhp or whatever it was) if you get what i mean?

Yea but been talking to my mate that has just set up his own tuning company local to me, my passat pulled 172bhp at Chipped UK (mapped by previous owner) and on his rollers it made 161bhp week earlier he had another PD TDi lump that made 190bhp at Chipped UK and it only made 168bhp on his.

The wheel bhp was the same but the power at the flywheel were different, he said you can alter the readings on the system some how and show more power at the flywheel. Bit mad listening to him saying it, thinking how do you know the power u get from a remap is the real power.

I'm still waiting to be on the same shift as him in work so he can explain it more to me but all I know is that you can't alter the power at the wheels but can alter the power at the flywheel.

With that in mind maybe the rollers had been altered to show from figures or the rollers aren't very good after being knocked around in the van on transit.

Know what you mean suj, it could have been 190 standard and then 240bhp after the service.

that is kinda disturbing if it can be altered, some people might pay extra to have extra power written on their RR printout!

yeah but thinking about it myself, that increase it got was bloody high for just a service lol

I reckon if roll of the standard 16v or 8v members on here did a rolling road they all pull above or some to what Seat figures are, unless the engine is screwed of course.

Engines do produce more power depending how you "run them in" when they were first purchased. Only cars I have seen pull less on rollers are the likes of newer cars like the Fiesta ST 150ps which is really 148bhp and also seen a Focus ST170 (again 170ps) pull 162bhp on the rollers.

yeah i get you mate! i heard about the fords, and doesn't their mustang gt500 only have 420bhp? lying gits :cartman:

i want to get my 16v RR'd, but atm it's got a lag problem, i think it's because the idiot i brought it off smoothed and drilled the airbox, but drilled the WHOLE box, then put fibreglass on the inside to cover the holes, idiot! so the heats messing up the air!

so gonna go scrappies and steal an airbox and see if that makes a difference?

where did you get ur rr done dave? anywhere near cardiff?

Use to go to Westec in newport. Had my Rolling roaded there twice, once before cams and again after. And of course it was on the rollers in Stealth Racing.

Westec has closed now but search (yahoo or google) for GotBoost Tuning it's in Llandow.
