Hi I have a Cupra PD 160 with a recent Revo Remap. I have been reading around in other forums etc and they are all stating they are getting and average of 50-60 mpg! I admit i like to get the car pulling a little bit, but on a run to work (30miles) I have tried to be as eco as possible and only managed a personall best of 48 mpg.

Are people lying? is my car running rich? whats going on!

What kind of roads are you driving on to get to work? I only get high mpg when i'm on the motorway...even then it takes a few miles to build up the mpg. Your remap should have made the car more economical when driven correctly.

Easiest way to get pics up is to upload them onto photobucket and then copy the image tag onto a thread.

i have the cupra tdi aswell and 2 me its amazing on fuel compared to my mondeo v6. But i have 2 say i tought it might have been abit better. If its normal roads eg stopping and staring and not a clear run then 48 mpg sound about right. I do a 25 mile run to work and thats about what i get, were as my mondeo use 2 be 28 mpg

Half my journey is motorway that has been restricted to 50 by yellow vultures and the other half is country roads, usually with little to no traffic. I'm sure the people with 1.9 tdi 350bhp+ claiming to get 60mpg are streeeeetching the truth a tad. Thx guys

i think the 50-60mpg guys are Fr tdi owners.

the best i've had in mine is 50mpg driving at a steady 60mph down the side of loch lomond not sure on the distance.

i've had 47mpg on a 400mile journey that was 1hr of A roads and 5hrs of motorway.

and i'm not sure if there are any 350bhp Tdi's Ibizas out there?? petrol yes but not derv.

Incorrect. :D

My Mrs has got mine now, but in the MK4 Cupra TDI I was regularly getting 50mpg+ on most journeys. That was across back roads or on the motorway.

The trick is to get into 6th gear early and then just back off the accelerator so your using the torque of the engine. You can get into 6th at 40mph. Also look at what is happening ahead and just ease off so that you don't have to stop.

The Mrs is doing a motorway run of 100 mile return everyday at motorway speeds and is constantly getting 50mpg +.

The best I ever managed was 62.2mpg on a 50mph run down a motorway.

Good luck with you MPG. :D

Steve.

PS The MPG also gets better once the engine is over 20K miles.

thanks guys. I havent yet made it into the 50s but new pb is 49.4

I have also put shell V power in a couple of times and have noticed better town mpg

Mr Cellotape, I got the backing off thing down to a tee when I was living in Cardiff, on newport road there was a cross road that always caused problems at rush hour. Worked out that if I let the car just run on tickover it would be just slow enough to not stop instead of the 6 times it would take normally. People behind me always looked [:@] until they realised what I was doing tho;)
