so im looking to improve the look and security of my subwoofer enclosure. currently running a standard sub in a box and the amp bolted to the metal on the inside of the boot..

was thinkinf of sinking the sub into the spare wheel hole by creating a false floor or are there any other ways that look pretty good for not alot of money and easy to do?

any of your install pics would be of great help!!!

ps. i want to be able to use the boot so mounting in the wheel well would be good if i had a thick purspex cover on it...lots of lacrosse kit goes in the car so big installs are not an option..oh yeah im using a 12" sub!

A mate runs this in his car, http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/product_detail.jsp?product_id=9192&taxonomy_id=25-130

if you think you'd get a bit of cash for your setup and want space more than anything these are perfect and pack a decent enough wallop.

If your wanting looks and your existing gear i'd go for the wheel well option with the perspex cover (might affect sound though?) and dot some LED's around the sub cone to light it up a bit and make it look the part.

Just a thought

thats mine mate, just siliconed the sides of the boot and stuck some mdf panels on there and the base is just a big bit of mdf which is wedged tight against the sides, and back of the seat and back of the boot, which means that when the seat is put forward you can pull the whole base bit out so you can get to the spare wheel.

you could do something similar but instead of mounting the subs on the top of the big mdf panel you could fix them underneath, andthen put your perspex over the subs... but youd have to drill holes in the perspex to get the air out... whilst keeping your kit off. perspex is expensive too. i bought a 60cm x 60cm or soby 8mm thick piece and it cost me £25 so a big enough bit to fit the whole boot would be extortionate.

something similar to what ive got with subs mounted on the underside of the mdf with sub grille covers, or drilled perspex over the top would do the job i think...maybe.

If you need boot space, try a StealthBox. Nice neat fit & looks nice in a stealthy kind of way. I got a s/h one for a Polo (same fit) for £50.

yea ill get things measured up for you. i did it all myself so it cant be too hard, its probably better if you just make card cut outs and test fit everything and then cut it out of wood mdf. ill measure things up anyhow as best i can for you... will do it tomorrow

Right, first thing to do is cut 2 pieces of mdf around 6mm thick which will act as the side panels. these were made from card templates which i made. the mdf is big enough to hook under neath the black plastic speaker grilles which neatens the top and follows the contour of boot to look neat and also to follow the back of the back seat, and down to the bottom of the boot. it was covered in fabric (front) and then siliconed to the rear suspension houses... (you know what i mean).
If you do this try and make the side panels as straight as possible... the silicone will account for any adjustment to make the panels stright, following the line of the vehicle.

The next stage is to make a wooden frame from something like 2"x1" wood. this runs along the back of the boot like in the 4th picture and is bolted to the back metal on the boot, it then runs along the side panels and is bolted again to these and then brackets are used to make another beam along the back edge of the back seats. This platform is to support the midle panel... (which on the pics has the JBL subs on it. The frame allows the middle bit to be taken out giving access to the spare wheel.

Cut a middle panel to the size of the frame out of at least 10mm MDF. Make it to fit tight against the side panels and the back and back of the seat, then it wont move. When you fold the back seat forward this will create the access needed to lift the middle panel out of the boot

The res is easy, just cut the sub holes out and bolt the amp on

Maybe this helps?
maybe not?

if you want me to get some more pics, i can do...
