PHEV use only Engine

Hey guys!

Do you guys know if there is a way to only use the engine in the Leon PHEV for a journey? I try setting it to hold the charge, but I still see the engine shutting off and using the electric motor quite regularly.

In some cases, I would really like to use just the engine to preserver the charge for the rest of the day for example.

Thanks in advance!

In the menu, there is supposed a way to preserve the battery but every time I've tried it, it falls below the % I've asked it to maintain.

So in theory there is, in reality it doesn't seem to work (on my car at least)

That's exactly my point. I tried that feature so many times, but I've had it fall over 10% below the charge I want it to keep. I assume there's no other alternative to get the engine running on its own...

Can you not set it to hybrid mode and put the preserve battery to 100%?

Haven’t actually tried that to be honest, will definitely give it a go.

I can already see my consumption going through the roof!
From what I've seen in the other threads, running on pure ICE (ie when battery dead) still nets you 45mpg.

Intelligent auto should let you get best mpg, but you need to input the postcode of your destination

Yeah I get about 45mpg in ICE only.

What is the intelligent auto? I hardly use my inbuilt nav and use the one through android auto, is this a feature built into the regular nav?

Thanks to another poster - from the Cupra Formentor section, also people have discussed in the standard Seat Leon subsection.

The Intelligent Hybrid App allows the user to save electrical energy until reaching home (charging point) with just “one click”. If this option is not selected, the maximum amount of electrical energy will be consumed until the selected destination is reached. If the user has no active route, the function will offer the activation of a predictive route and BMA mode from the widget itself with just one click.

I turned the function on and selected my destination, the SatNav effectively plots the return home route as well - which means your miles to destination and arrival time are based on your return home, not to your destination (which is now effectively a waypoint).

I did a trip of approximately 30 miles each way primarily via motorway and had 25% battery power left on my return home (including a brief trip out at my destination). I think that is better than normal hybrid mode where it uses as much of the battery as possible even on the motorway as has usually none is left by the time I'm back home.

So apart from the SatNav 'true' destination distance and arrival time being lost I'd say it does work, but still seems variable how much battery would be left if it were a longer trip. So my desire for a set auto reserve of battery power released by the Cupra mode is still unanswered!

After a year and a half with it this what I get:

- If you want to save let´s say, half battery for returning home the Intelligent app does the job (percentage up or down).
- If you set to save battery on the battery section the car tries but it depends on how you drive too:
- If you drive slow (like towns, traffic etc.) it will keep using the electric part. So if you want to save 50% it might go down to 40% but at some point is going to stop this, turn on the engine and start recharging the battery with the petrol engine.
- If you drive agressively, even if you still have a lot of battery left is going to keep using the petrol engine (in hybrid mode) because it thinks you need power so you might end up at home with battery left.

So conclusion, if you want to save a specific perecentage of battery I would recommend to set it to the next upper option so if you want o save 40% set it to save 60% and that way it might go down to 50%.
And if you want to save petrol, when I´m coming home I normally have the screen that shows the range left on Electric and petrol. When the range matches what I have to home I change it to electric only to use all the battery that I have left

Hope this helps
