On last nights "Fifth Gear" they were testing performance Diesel fuels and had a humble Citroen C5 estate on the Dyno.

Std Supermarket fuel gave 155 Bhp, whereas Shell V Power and BP Ultimate Diesel both gave 161 Bhp.

I was wondering if you FR Tdi boys had noticed a difference ?

Pity they didn't test a leon, - maybe the differential in power might have been greater ?

Ive never tried performace fuel so cant comment on difference, I use millers anyway so I expect it has the same results as I have noticed a difference there. A few bhp here and there is hardly going to make a real difference day to day is it?

The only difference I notice is in my wallet! I generally stick to Shell normal diesel as its the cheapest around here.. The V Power diesel is more than 10p a litre more!

I was just about to start the exact same thread!! although I didn't see top gear, I'm gettin a FR TDI soon so was just curious. . .

well, if that's the outcome of a rolling road on a car with less bhp, then I'm convinced already!!

does anyone know if Tesco do ultimate deisel?? I love my clubcard points :D

Also worth noting that the higher quality fuels have finer soot deposits hence less nasty black stuff out the exhaust but this actually affects the DPF more than regular diesel. I think there is another thread on this.

I have got the FR 170 at the mo, and have stuck in both types of fuel, do about 600miles a week (company car), well not any more cant drive for two years due to popping my brain over christmas (dont ask) but didnt notice much difference really apart the cost and getting a rollocking off my boss for using expensivefuel!

I use it all the time - it's meant to be cleaner and for the sake of a couple of quid extra a week it's not that much of a problem. Stick some millers in every few tanks just for a bit extra.
