Performance and Audio upgrades planned...

Really enjoying Cupra ownership 3 weeks in, a couple of things in the pipeline and a couple of associated questions.

Going for a remap tomorrow, custom-code generic phase 1. Do you reckon I'm as well going with a performance panel filter whilst I'm at it, does it make much performance difference or does it just avoid the need for replacement in the future? If so, any particualr recommendations on brand???

Secondly, over the next couple of weeks I'll be gettng booked in for my audio install. I have an alpine 9965r dvd h/u, genesis series III amps, dynaudio esotec 3-ways plus a Diamond Audio D9 sub. All quality kit but that goes to pot if the fitting isn't spot on (hence not doing it myself  )

Has anyone else done some high-end SQ audio installs on their mk2 leon? Any major gotchas? Good results? I'm thinking of putting the 8" bass driver in the stock location, the 3" mid where the tweeter currently is, and the tweeter up on the a-pillar. Anyone got any pics of a-pillar installs in their leon? Or door builds?

Thanks, and of course I'll post updates/thoughts on the performance and audio improvements here.

no idea on audio sorry but if you change the panel filter go for a green cotton one seems to be the right thing to do, though tbh not sure you will notice much of a gain. I would look at a intake kit of which there are many, quite a few look OEM depends on the look u are after TBH.

Garry, regarding the audio upgrades, I'll be starting my own install soon(ish) and it'll be... big.

The mids should go to the A-pillars along with the tweeters, no space for them in the stock tweeter locations plus they'd sound awful in there.

I'm at work right now, when I get home tonight I'll post some photos for you. :)

Cheers Nick - in fact I think we may have spoken before on TA forum when I was doing a similar install on my mk v golf gti!

Was contemplating making a wee build to slot in the space at the wee window in front of the wing mirrors. I'm sure it wouldn't obstruct visibility too much and there would be plenty chance to change angles etc of the drivers.

Any thoughts on how to get good sounds out of the bass dirvers in the stock door locations - from what I can see there seems to be no inner door skin so creating the "sealed box" effect could be tricky...

Cheers for that!

Any recommended online suppliers for the Green Panel filters? I'll can google it but always prefer to work off a recommendation!

Not sure if I want to go down the CAI route, losing the engine cover etc -all starts to look a bit messy under-bonnet!

will do on the panel filter.

so - got the car back after the remap, picks up a bit better now. not had a chance for a full run yet but will do so shortly (after work)

there's a noticeable "chirrup" coming from the car on full acceleration - pretty sure it's not the tyres, was thinking maybe waste gate/dump valve/turbo?

Anyone else with a remap noticed this or is something in my engine about to break under the extra load!!!

It's possible, yes. :)

That's what I'll do as well.

Indeed, that's a mind job. The only things we can do really is deaden the outer metal as best as we can, as well as the inside of the door card, and then make a great baffle for the driver.

Right, I won't post any head unit pics as there are several threads around here, plenty of pics anyway.

What I will post though is these very interesting photos of an install by Focal, showing both what is most probably one of the worst doors for audio purposes and the best method for installing a 3-way set in a Leon:

Cheers Nick will have a look when I get home - the image hosting site you are using is blocked in work so I just get wee red X's.

Rob - sounds like a good build on the way, I was also considering false floor given the boot is quite deep. In my golf I used an amp rack mounted on the back of the rear seats, but as I'm probably going active in the SEAT I need space for two more amps plus a processor so boot floor might be my only option...

Rob, they might have been posted, but I don't think the guys who built it are TA members. They are Polish, IIRC, and those pillars were part of a Focal demo car.

Garry, I agree. The depth in the floor (along with the non folding rear seat base, which creates a step on the floor anyway when the seat back is folded) makes the false floor probably the only viable choice. That's if you still want a usable boot. :)

bqd, I don't know how much it'd cost to have those pillars made at an installer, if that's what you're asking. Most of the times it's part of a complete install.
