performance air filters

Hey all. I'm wanting to make my 2003 1.4 ibiza sound abit better at high revs, so i was thinking of getting a better air filter. I'm looking for a cheap one that will fit straight on the car without having to buy any other attachments for it. So i was wondering if you have any suggestions? K&N are good but again very expensive, and so to are problems fitting them even if they are made to fit?? cheers

your best off saving and getting a cold air fed one cos k&n just sucks in engine heat and makes your car loose power at higher revs. sounds good tho. i just took mine off lol

Yeah halfords do a decent universal cone filter, you`ll need to make/buy a mounting bracket for it though.

Yeah mine`s gone now too. You`re right though, best off getting a cold air fed cone - failing that just get a panel filter.

Yer I replaced mine with a green panel filter seems good tbh. They seem to be used alot on here so can't be bad. Acceleration is by far smoother and you don't sound like a big Chav ;) lol

Alright cheers guys. I'll look into halfords universal cone filter i think, and whether or not a mounting bracket is needed. Replacing the original one...is it just a simple replacement either with the bracket or not? Would you advice halfords doing it for me? cheers

Pretty much straight forward, you will have to take the full airbox off tho. You could do it yourself it's really easy to do tbh, shame it's not like the neo's tdi where they have a seperate airbox

Cheers guys. In the end i went for a full induction kit bought from halfords, specific k&n filter for my 1.4 and was only £75. Was really easy to fit. It now sounds awesome and perhaps a bit for responsive, really pleased!

You see, i have an FR Tdi (130) with a plain and simple helfrauds cone filter costing approx £35... I dont really seem to have problems with head soak and i dont have a mounting bracket, ive simply cable tied it to where ever i can and it doesnt rattle and it hasnt come loose in the past 2-3K miles so tbh, i rekon this is the cheapest and best bet for you...

Id never pay £75 for an air filter/induction kit unless its guarenteed to increase the performance of my car, and tbh, your not gonna get that much "performance" from a 1.4 anyway...

My reccomendation, get your "induction kit" sold on here, and just get a cheap helfrauds cone filter ;)

The advantage of a specific induction kit is it will come with all clamps / adapters / brackets / silicon pipes / cold air feeds required to get an exact fit.

Saying that... I have a Halfrauds open cone filter on mine! I would make a bracket to support it though. Mine was pulling the TIP down at a hell of an angle and it didn't look right.

K&N's are available on a certain auction site... worth the extra as they've excellent.
