People with powerflex -10mm drop mounts > Advice/pics needed

Hey chaps since fitting my coilovers and the aforementioned top mounts I have had a low rumble type knocking on bumpy surfaces.

I’ve changed my arb bushes and droplinks since too, and also taken the shocks out and torqued them back up which seemed to quell the noise a bit.

So I think it’s the top mounts. I have removed the rubber ring on the edge of the top mount cups, as the rubber didn’t sit nicely with the cups.

Since I have noticed the black spacers provided, I can spin freely by hand.

No idea if this is intended, but if the cups aren’t pressing tight on the spacers then what’s the point of them?

The point of the cup is just to allow the strut to sit higher into the tunnel. I can spin mine freely as well it's perfectly normal. Did you replace the bearings that sit under the bushes while you were there? And did you put plenty of grease on the bushings and surrounding surfaces?

Perfect, I’ve done exactly the same as you. I’ll be honest I have had the front shocks apart a couple of times now and still understand how the cups work lol

It was concerning me that the spacers span

Knocking must be coming from something else then

Did you take the strut out completely? If so just make sure they are seated properly into the hub. I'd take a look at the ball joints as well, they aren't that great tbh.

Yeah I took them apart completely and re tightened everything with the help of a vice to steady things this time.

The soft knocking noise remained if not a tiny bit better. Could be worth checking the ball joints, I didn’t consider any parts I hadn’t touched as the noise came with the coilovers/top mounts being fitted.

It’s possible the car being lower is now causing a knocking from elsewhere?

A quick test you can do is jack the car up and try and pull the wheel in and out towards you, this will tell you if there is movement in the balljoint. After that take the wheel off the hub and try moving the hub up and down, I wouldn't have thought it will move as this is usually the problem you get with worn top mount bushes. But it might just highlight whatever is knocking while your pushing and pulling at things.

After that take the wheel off the hub and try moving the hub up and down, I wouldn't have thought it will move as this is usually the problem you get with worn top mount bushes. Thanks mate will give this a go. Suddenly I’m actually having the car pull left under hard braking, might just be tracking as I know that’s out.

Could be the pins stuck on the offside front calliper. Might be worth giving them a re-grease. If it's stuck open rather than closed it's unlikely the disc is warped and causing the knocking. But it's all process of elimination. At least once you find the cause of the knocking, if you can replicate it while the front is jacked up and stationary, you can work on addressing it.

Before fiddling i checked my pressures and left side tyres were both low lol
