pedal box

I was going to attack my pedal box this weekend but wanted a second opinion first . . .

I have a replacement pedal box which I removed a couple of days ago in a breakers yard, it took a couple of hours to get out using my own intuition and managed to get it out without removing the shears bolts holding the steering colomn - basicaly I didn't have the tools to remove them.

The upshot is that when I go to put the replacement box in my own car I recon it will be ALOT easier with the column out which isn't a problem, I plan to grind slots in them to remove them with a screwdriver but do I

1) fit new shear bolts but how the hell do you tighten them up? or

2) just replace with a normal bolt with a hex head?

What do you guys think???

Yep, theyre about a quid each from the dealer, Im not sure if you could use normal bolts as I seem to remember when I did mine that the shear bolt has like a tapered thread at the end, some sort of special design?? A normal bolt may not secure the column properly.Best play safe!

Cheers guys, I'll get the shear bolts from the dealers but I'm not sure if the parts counter is open on Saturday .

Should have asked this a couple of days ago :(
