PD160 buzzing at 2500rpm

I took the Cupra out today and discovered it has a horrible rattle/buzzing noise coming from the engine bay at 2500rpm. To me it sounds like when you have a serious boost leak, although as far as I can see, all the FMIC pipes are on and secured fine.

Anyone else had this? Any ideas before I call Motorvogue?

Might be Ye Olde boost-pipe-rattling-on-fuel-filter-housing problem...happened on loads of 130s at certain revs like you describe.

Could be the air box or engine cover rattling on the struct brace if you have one?

eh? a boost leak doesnt sound like buzzing or rattling, its a hissing.

Sounded exactly like the time I had a boost leak on the red PD130. Cover the leak up and its gone!

Nope, no strut brace and I tested it with the engine cover off - no difference!

Sounds like something to check! It goes in for the service next week so I'll check it out while its on the ramps! Cheers Lee! :D

Any other ideas before I pull the engine cover off and only look for one thing? :)

Mine does something similar, when I pass through 1700rpm slowly, or drive around a carpark etc in second gear when 1700 rpm is the best speed I get the most annoying loud rattle/buzzing from under the dash. I dont think its from the engine bay though. I think this is just the poor build quality on the Mk4, give me back my mk3 cupra anyday for build quality!

I asked then to sort it at SEAT and they said, thats just what diesels are like!! Thought they were a bit more refined nowadays though.

Nathan, when my boost pipe was rattling on the fuel filter housing, I could have sworn it was coming from near the bulkhead, certainly didn't think the noise would come from as far away as it did. Might still be worth a check.

Agreed, and it gets annoying after a while (12k miles)

Yeah I got it fixed, the boost pipe was hitting the fuel filter as muddyboots mentioned.

Get it to the dealers my friend :)
