Passenger seat won't fold - NOT as simple as expected

Hi all, first time poster here. Great to be part of the club.

A while ago, my little sister (****ing typical, eh?) used the lever to fold my passenger seat forward, and since then it has never worked. I got my arse into the back of the car to have a look, but the strange thing is, the wire IS hooked up into the hole that pulls down the mechanism.

Okay, so I'm thinking the cable has snapped or somehow is not linked to the lever, right?
Wrong, I can pull the cable the other way (so, down the chair), and the lever on the seat moves down into it's resting position. (I should mention this is the cable on the right-hand side - the one on the left is fine)

The cable itself is slack - which is why moving the lever doesn't pull up the mechanism so I'm wondering if it's meant to be routed somehow, to keep it taut. It's nigh on impossible to have a look without taking apart the seat which I don't want to do just yet.

Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks all.

I have heard that the cable slips off part of it's routing, however I did not realise this at the time that mine went. Instead I used two sets of pliers to tie a few knots in the cable therefore removing the slack. Maybe not ideal, but touch wood it hasn't given me any bother after a year

The cable is sleeved through the seat and if it comes away from the retainers can cause issues. Best bet would be to try and run your hand up the rear of the seat and reattach or remove the handle and check behind.

Pretty fiddly...
