Panoramic Sunroof Problems?

I recently took delivery of my 150FR ST and on the second day noticed that the sunroof rubber seal had a split in it. I dropped it round my local Seat dealer and the PDI company paid, happy days.

Yesterday I used the 'convenience' closing to shut the roof, it made a bit of a 'clonk' and the roof reversed. I tried it again and the same happened.

When I looked closer it was the wind deflector making the noise and causing the roof to reverse. The sliding sunroof panel has a block either side which runs up the deflector and pushes it down - allowing the roof to close. What is happening is the block is riding off the edge of the deflector on one side and allowing it to pop back up, jamming the roof.

It can be seen on the deflector where the block has been riding on the edge and it has now worn it away.

Anyone else having any problems?

I had exactly the same problem on my B7 Passat estate. Two sunroof replacements failed to remedy the problem.

In general one doesn't read or hear about probs with the pano roof.
But that shouldn't prevent one of having some minor probs with it because it is a mass production accessory.
I once heard about someone having a rattle in the mechanism but the dealer took care of that.
This roof (of this manufaturer a Dutch company) is used in all VAG products and in many BMW and MB cars.

Thanks guys,

The quality of the mechanism is good, but the design seems poor. Even if a new deflector is fitted the blocks are in the wrong position, they need to be 3mm outwards.

Maybe, I just got a Friday afternoon one.....

Not related to the mechanical operation of the roof but my Passat CC had developed a few hairline cracks on the black gloss panel that goes between the opening part of the roof and the top of the windscreen. I was absolutely mortified to find out the panel alone couldn't be replaced so VW warranty covered a complete new roof and a hefty labor bill.

Mines fine apart from a bit of silicone on the seals to stop them squeaking

Hi Slipps,

On yours, (niiiiiice btw!) Do the little blocks that push the deflector down run in the middle of the angled part of the deflector, or right on the inside edge?

Even if a new deflector is fitted to mine , the blocks are in the wrong place, so its always going to wear the edge away.
