First things first; I appreciate this debate has been done to death. I'm not concerned with power gains and i'm not massively concerned with heatsoak as with the engine running as hot as it does i know it's hot under there regardless.

What i'm after is which one gives the best sound? Would it be a big cone (i'm looking 150mm-200mm in length) or a panel with drilled and smoothed airbox? I'm gonna replace the standard cooling ducting whichever I go for, and if it's a cone it'll have a heatshield too.

honda S2000 standard paper cone, higher flow, higher G/s incorperates velocity stack into design. Massivly better filtration than foam or cotton filters. and Very cheap.

good reading here http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/a3-s3-forum-8l-chassis/118673-benjamins-s2000-air-filter-mod.html

I'll give you that one, that's a solid read. I think I'll be going the s2000 route for the money! The colour schemes are generally cack but hopefully the plastics will spray up.

Thanks for this!

Would this S2000 filter setup work with a PD150 setup? I dont know the diameter of the maf on the TDi engine but i presume its got to be the same sort of width as the Cupra R one?

Liam.

Open cone gives you the loudest noise, question is whether that's what you want or not. I have a panel filter in the standard airbox, better sounding than the standard and you get a little bit of DV noise too without it being "chavvy" lol. If I was doing it now though I would probably go for the S2000 one.

So, i went the S2000 route and i can honestly say i'm very pleased. The sound is great. Can't really comment on performance as any gains on mine (Standard LCR 225) are negligible anyway. I got the green and white one as seen in the thread T108 posted but I sprayed the plastics black and I think it looks ok.
