Paintwork Help Please

I've got a paintwork issue with my 05 Ibiza. I noticed it in November and am still waiting for it to be sorted but its getting worse.

The roof looks like its got Chicken Pox. There are large and small areas of paintwork cracked through to the metal all over the roof/ spoiler. Also on the bonnet and drivers side panels.

Any ideas what I should do or what could cause it. Has anyone else had this sort of problem?

Thanks

They put it down to birdsdroppings and the areas that are affected haven't had birds mess on them. I don't think they will accept it through the warranty.

I'm having a paintwork inspection tomorrow for them to measure the paint layers and application. I'll see what happens then.

I had a strange effect on the lip of my boot. Looked like the paint had been left to "drip dry" and the drops had been knocked off leaving primer underneath. (difficult to explain!)
I ent to the dealers, they said it looks a bit odd and took some photo's, they then sent a guy from VW to inspect my paint. He then proceeded to tell me that I had done this my self and must have scraped it on my garage roof!( huh? a- no garage b- the garage roof!? wtf!) or i had closed the boot on something.
HE also go this paint thickness measuring tool out and wandered round the car prodding about.

I think that they employ these people to convince you that there is no warranty claim to be made.

Did you have to pay for the inspection upfront? They tried to get me to do it but we refused as the warrenty doesn't say you have to pay for it. The roof defect they thought was birdsmess the bonnet he wasn't sure was and the boot and drivers side quarter he didn't really say.

I've written to MD and spoken to people hihg up in the company and the destinct impression I get is that they couldn't give a toss about customers at all as they haven't even bothered responding to the letter.

I've been qouted £2000 to correct the damage as the whole car needs either stripping and respraying or blending to colour match! My car is only worth about £4000 if I'm lucky!

The next step is to find out where I stand legally although I don't hold out much hope. The amount of money they make in a year you would think they could come up with some sort of agreement even if you had to pay part of the repairs. Afterall the paint used on cars today should be able to withstand birdsmess as it is an obvious problem. I've looked as closely as I can at every SEAT i've passed since this happened and I haven't seen any with anything like this kind of damage. It was only just over a year old when the paintwork went.

Thanks for the help.

For what it's worth you are not the only one with a paint issue.
By the time I had the inspection done on my car it was more than 12 months old.

SEAT UK paid for the report once I had contacted Trading Standards and then quoted this in an e-mail to SEAT UK.

Supply of Goods and Services Act
The Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982 requires traders to provide services to a proper standard of workmanship. Furthermore, if a definite completion date or a price has not been fixed then the work must be completed within a reasonable time and for a reasonable charge.
Also, any material used or goods supplied in providing the service must be of satisfactory quality.
The law treats failure to meet these obligations as breach of contract and consumers would be entitled to seek redress, if necessary through the civil courts.

OK it was after the dealer had attempted to correct the fault but the point is SEAT UK paid for the inspection because they accepted that it was a warranty claim to begin with.

Have a read of this.

The warranty on the car comes under this.

Don't give up. Insist that SEAT or the dealer pay for the inspection.
Do all communications about this matter in writing or by e-mail and keep copies of everything!

Good luck.
Regards Guy.

that sounds like the kind of problem you would get with paintling fibreglass in the wrong way!?
god know what would cause the problem though, have you owend it from new?
only explanation could be there would be some sort of product on the roof to cause the paint to split?
you see it on really old rolls royce or benteys where they have been painted like 10 times!!! but obviously isnt the problem in this case!

When we spoke to the Customer Service Manager of SEAT Uk she said SEAT did not have a problem with their paintwork. I'm starting to think different.

The letter I was sent recently they have agreed to pay for the inspection after contacting the Cheif Executive. They addressed the letter to the wrong person and she didn't even sign it herself which is poor form. I get the distinct impression that once they have their money they forget all about you.

After 8 months they have agreed to pay for the inspection but the damage has increasingly got worse. I think I'll end up taking it to court. The letter I was sent shows a lack of regard for the situation at all. The Customer Service Manager stated that all warrenty claims are directed straight away to the warrenty department for processing on 4 seaparate occaisons I contacted SEAT and they didn't contact the warrenty department! I spoke to VBRA the Vehicle Builders Association and it does not fall under their remit. Next is Which and Watchdog I think as I've spoken to the Citizens Advice Bureau and they suggested having the inspection done as evidence.

Funny you had your inspection at Perry's in Aylesbury Joonspoon. They told me they don't deal with paintwork when I went there for my service. They sent me to the crash centre round the corner where this bloke took one look at the 1 patch on the roof and quoted £2,000 for repair. I wouldn't have let that bloke touch my car with a bardge pole. Citygate have quoted nearly £2,000 to repair all the damage although SEAT Watford suggested not using a SEAT specialist as they don't use them but as I think it was a dodgy paint job I want a SEAT speacialist to do it.

It really annoys me that they take people for mugs, it makes you wonder how many people swallow the birdmess thing and go away letting them off the hook.
