paint layers

can any body tell me out of interest , what the skin of paint on my car consists of. from the metal up?

ive recently had a small couple of dents on the top of the front wing. one dent has gone through the paint. its tiny but needs sorting..... thus paints suddenly become interesting

primer, paint and clear coat.

total thickness is usually around 120ums (microns) with the clear coat being almost half of that.

Dont for get etch primer! bonds to the metal creating a rust proofing and good keying surface for the primer (often zinc dipped in factory for this! i think)

2k and cellolose paint will only be primer and colour (no top clear)
1k is primer colour and clear
