Paint chips

This is probably not the right place to put this, but I did a search and couldn't find the answer I was looking for.

With my past 3 cars, they've all had various chips and scratches on them and I haven't bothered too much, but I want to keep this one in fairly good condition. The other week when washing it, I noticed a chip on the right front wing, which had gone right through to the metal. And then last weekend, my passenger door was hit against a high kerb, making a small dent (which I can live with as it's on the bottom corner and barely noticable), but it's also chipped the paint, making a similar size mark to the one on the wing.

How do I go about getting these fixed? Do I go for touch up paint or get it done properly? I'm a complete amateur when it comes to things like this. :help:

depends what you want to spend.

got the same colour as you, took my VIN number to dealers a few days ago and just picked up my stick today. £3.05 + vat

iv got a few im going to have a go at tomorrow 1 on drivers wing mirror, 2 on drivers side A piller and one high up near the top of the bonet but might leave that one as its made a few marks.

might be worth searching for some guides on how to do it unless you want to spend the money.
will also void the paint warranty if you dont get it done by an approved seat body shop i would have thought? unless that just applys to full panel resprays?

well I have done a few chips on the two ovni yellow seats that I have owned with very good results

clean the chip out with white spirit (hopefully you have no rust in it) if so gently pick the rust away with the point of a stanley blade

then blob a generous amount of touch up paint into the chip and in affect over fill it, the paint will shrink a fair bit when it is dry

leave the blob of paint to dry for at least 2 days

t cut the blob of paint gently until the surface is flush with the rest of the paintwork, you should be left with a chip that is full of the correct colour paint

apply a coat of wax and the job is done

some of the touch up kits come with a clear lacquer, IMHO don't bother with it

Cheers for the advice. :) Asked a mate yesterday who has more of a clue than me and he says it's just through to the primer, not the metal.
