hi,

i've got an 06 ibiza fr tdi. past month or so a fault keeps occuring! when im driving along or if i pull up somewhere the traction control, abs and handbrake lights flash and it beeps loudly 3 times. after this the power steering light comes on and the steering will eventually pack up. sometimes the stereo cuts out, sometimes the headlights cut out!! and other times the dash lights/interior lights will flicker and go out. the lights will come back on themselves but to get the steering to work again i need to switch the car off and back on again. its driving me mad lol, and its happening all the time.

any advise or input would be much appreciated!

cheers, gates1

Have you tried reading the controller modules for any logged faults? This might be a wild guess, but maybe one of the wires to the charging system is frayed/sheared - and that might be at the plug/socket point under the engine where a few connectors are held on a mounting clamp. This is a well known problem it seems with the TDi engined cars. What might be happening is this, due to the excitation wire being broken, when you are at low revs the alterator O/P will be very very low - you then demand a lot of current from the electrical system by turning the steering wheel (electro-hydraulic steering assistance) - and the supply system can not provide it and so collapses the supply voltage, which causes non-urgent items to drop out - and that includes the power steering as you can still safely drive without it.

Thanks Silver Surfer. I am fortunately still within the warranty period. Any idea whether corrections will be covered or not? Thanks again:)
