Model Year 23/24 Overheating wireless charger and surrounding surfaces

We have a new Formentor v1 1.5 dsg. The wireless charging tray overheats, even when no phone on the mat. The surrounding surfaces also overheat! Interestingly the centre console and storage inside of the armrest also overheat - the contents of my water bottle were warmed up and keys stored in the armrest were hot to pickup!!!

I have read elsewhere that others have experienced similar problems - what's going on? Is there a fix?!
