overheating when standing

just brought another cupra, noticed when sitting in traffic very quickly the temp gauge goes to 120, as soon as i start driving it cools down to about 90, is this just a fuse or is there a common problem with the fans etc?

With the mk2 there are 2 fuses for the fan. Check both. Then (when cool) run the engine with no top on your coolent bottle. (keep checking your temp gauge) Do this until the fan comes on. Then switch off your engine and replace the cap. If the problem still persists; get a multimeter, unplug the fan with the ignition on and check that its getting 12v.

Fuses on top of the battery, far right one. Take a look and if its blown replace with a new 30A one

EDIT: You may need a new fuses holder too, in some cases the plastic housing of the fuses melts the holder and covers the contacts inside.
