iv had a quick read over the FAQ pionts about overheating problems.the other week i was drinvin home when my temp gauge shot up to the 120 mark.

after a quick look i discovered that my fans were not comin on so i replaced the fan switch,on the radiator.this sorted one problem.

iv had the car running while stationary for a good hour n she never overheated, but as soon as i attempted to drive down the road she overheated.

i put my vagcom onto the car and the fault codes i got were

1) 16502 - coolant temp sensor (g62) - signal too high
po118-35-10 intermittant
2) 18010 - power supply terminal 30 - voltage too low
p1602- 35 - 10 intermittant
3) 17834 - EVAP purge valve (N80) open circuit
p1426- 35- 10 intermittant
4) 00533 - supply voltage B+ 07 - 10 signal too low
intermittant

does that mean anythin to anyone?

I've just had the same problem happen with my car. Was overtaking a bus, all of a sudden the water temp gauge shot up to 120, beeped and the light come on. Although i don't have any fault codes showing on Vagcom.

How easy is it to fit a new Water pump? where is it located, is there a guide on this forum?

Is there anyway of checking the pump without taking it off?

if its the main water pump thats a cam belt off job, should change the cam belt at the same time

Is there more than one waterpump? Which is it most likely to be?
I've also read that it's best to change the cambelt @ the same time, is this essential? as my car has only just hit 40k.

How much did that set you back? Seat quoted me 600 notes, to replace the waterpump, cambelt and do a 40k service. What a rip off, i then got a second quote for the same from a local garage for £300.

Yeah i was quoted £160 just for the cambelt and pump change but the 40k service is up in a few hundred miles so they quoted £300 for the lot which is the cheapest quote i've had so far. I'm waiting for a mate of mine to get back to me with a price hopefully get it done even cheaper still.
