Not having much luck with my car at the moment! On my way home tonight it started to overheat. Ive had the problem before whenthe fuse on top of the battery burnt out stopping the fans from working.

This time the the fans dont appear to be kicking in but the fuse is ok. Could it be the dreaded waterpump or something else? Can anybody suggest a way of diagnosing the problem?

Cheers Ollie.

Cheers mate. I thought it might be. The cars done 58k now so its due the dreaded waterpump and cambelt change and service anyway.

when my pump went it overheated under load and returned to normal when idling.

I think its the same with mine but i'll double check. Ive also checked the return pipe to the coolant bottle and it doesnt seem to flow any faster when i rev the engine, so i dont think its circulating the water as it should.

Try replacing the fan fuse, mine started doing this, the fuse hadn't blown or melted but replaced it with a new one and has been fine since

Samething happened on a friends bezza. Worth a go!

Just tried replacing all three fuses on top of the battery and still no joy. Looks like i'm going to be forking out for a new waterpump :(

But fella surely if your pump had died the fans should still kick in???? Would just have little effect due to the water not circulating.....
Do some tests with a multimeter and see if there is definately no power going to the fans... maybe the fans are done for........

id guess it would be the other way round for fans. overheating at idle and cooling once moving?

Yeah i dont think it overheats so much on idle, more so when driving. I believe the fans aren't working because the pump isn't pumping enough water to the radiator for the thermostat to activate the fans?

I could be wrong here but thats my thoughts.

edit: i've tried running a 12v supply directly to the fans and they ran fine.

must admit that im suprised your fans arnt running. mine did but perhaps mine was getting some water around.

deffo get the metal impellor water pump so it wont fail again. the stock ones couldnt look weaker. due to area get cambelt and tensioner done ;)

i paid 350 for the same.

dont run it hot for long mate. not good;)
