hey up peeps. having some new tyres slipped onto the FR's wheels earlier and noticed splatters off grease in arch, quick look down and boot has split. looked at hub nut/bolt and looks like 12 point but couldnt work out the size so was wondering if anyone knew? i've seen the outer leon driveshaft removal guide on this site and that one was 30mm.
cars 06 FR tdi 130bhp.
cheers
Paul

36mm hey? looks like i may have to do a one off purchase....
think im gonna pop the driveshaft out and sort the boot on a worktop. i know the inner cv joint is secured with m10 splined bolts but a already have a socket to sort that.
do u know what torque figure is involved when replacing the hub nut. i know it will be alot!
thanks

if you havent already got replacement boots my advice is be carefull which ones you get. the new OEM ones and patter ones from Euro car parts, GSF etc are toss!! they make them from a hard plastic now to give them longer life but they dont really stay on under full lock.

Search for a company called J & R cv joints in Birmingham, they still do the flexible ones and seem like a decent company so far. ive had a set of cv joints and boots off them. and they send them with the decent clips too.

Sorting on a bench is a good idea, the cv joints can be a bugger to get off the driveshaft!

Cheers for the replies guys. I've done a few cv joint/boot changes so have most of the tools.
I've ordered those boot kits from j and r before. I wasn't overly impressed so used GKN jobbies from ECP in the past but wil get one on order after ur recommendation.
Yeah I'm going to do the cv joint on the worktop as I've just gotten over a popped disc in my back so don't wont to be bent over double for too long.
I may even do a cheeky how to for fellow forum members......;-)

I'll see what I can do bald eagle ;)
Spoke to tech at listers seat here in Worcester and he said 50nm then 1/4 turn. Doesn't seem very much. My passat was something like 160nm then 1/4 turn :-O

Yes, I did the Polo 9N with what tools I had - except the bihex socket, for the Passat I had to buy a BIG torque wrench AND a BIG breaker bar, but they will come in handy in the future!

Well all done and she's back on the road. Took plenty of photos so I'll so a how to when I get a min. One really annoying thing were the bolts to gearbox. I had thought they were m10 splined but turned out they were m12. Quick dash to the local machine Mary and I was off again. Also used a GKN boot. Not nice but was up against it. I was going to get a j and r one off fleabay but didn't have time. Still, stops the crud getting in and killing the joint. Thanks all.

It's is. I got the new kit from ECP then popped round to machine Mart to pick up the 36mm 12 point socket only to find they sold the only one they stock. Arghhh. Then halfrauds didn't have one. Phoned around and finally got one. Got back, undone the hub nut then went to undo the bolt to gearbox capped bolts only to find they were not m10. I then used some blue tac and squished some in then went back to machine mart and said what size is that. Bloody joke.
