Ongoing speaker adapter debate

Hello, ive done a search for old posts but have drawn a blank as all the links have gone out of date.
Does anyone have the info and poss pictures of their speaker adapters for the front of the mk4, there seems to be two avaliable one is just round and the other seems to be sculpted with three mounting holes shown. only really want to take the doors apart once you see, and would like to not be drilling new holes to fit them if possible.

also as a side note as the fr at least comes with seperate tweeters do i need a crosover unit or can i just replace both the door speakers and tweeters item for item. planning on keeping the standard head unit.

cheers

The adapters you want are the ones for a VW Lupo. They don't make adapters for Mk4 Ibizas, the three mounting hole ones are for Mk3. You could make your own ones out of MDF or similar like this...

The plastic speaker adapters come with connectors so you can plug the new mid speakers in directly. Not sure about the tweeters.

IMO, you'd be much better off changing the headunit first. The speakers will only be as good as the signal they are getting.

Agreed!

Make MDF one's as I was talking to a audio specialist part of the 4 masters group & they give better acoustics than plastic ones.

Dynamat the surrounding area too as the vibration in mine is crazy, so worth doing the job properly.

I'm even going to the extent of dynamat covering the out door skin by removing the door window & I'm bolting the speakers to the doors with bolts & locknuts.

Sounds like your doing a proper job there. I could really do with some sound deadening in my doors to sort the vibrations and hopefully improve midbass.

I've just tried to change the speakers in the front and got the right size and doubly made sure of it, having said that the originals are much slimmer than the ones I have bought, ive googled VW Lupo speaker adapters but my question is will they pull the speakers out enough so that the window will go down completely! argh nightmare.....pop rivets....not good

Depends on your speakers really.. Mine have a 68mm mounting depth, and I made a 1" MDF baffle for them. They clear the window by about 2mm max, and the doorcard barely fits back on, so thats about as far as I'd like to go
