One front wiper not working, help

Hi all

Bit of a strange one I think, had my Altea out yesterday and the wipers were working fine with no problems or anything strange when I parked up last night at home, however this morning when I got into the car only the n/s wiper is working, the driver side didn't move and still in the park position.
Had a look and it doesn't appear stuck on anything and nothing visable underneath at the linkage, it has just stopped working.

Where do I start looking for the problem or is it a dealer visit?

Anybody else suffered from one wiper not working?

Thanks
Graham

Hi Big G

I had a similar problem with my wifes Seat, only it was the passenger side. In my case the nut holding the wiper arm on was slightly loose . Once i tightened it up it was working fine.
Chances are that your problem is totally unrelated, but you never know!:D

Thanks Ankman

Eventually got it fixed, it appears there is a known fault where the wire too that particular motor rubs and wears through under the dashboard.

What a performance to get the motor rewired.

Have a similar issue, only that my wiper stopped working during driving. It was one of the strangest things. Driving along fine on the highway, with wipers on lowest speed. When the driver side wiper was up it decided to go to the park position instead of going down. Since the wiper was moved with normal speed to the park position i do not think its a motor or power problem. The other one was working fine. Is the before mentioned wire a control wire or a power wire?

Hi mate. I had this issue a while back.

You have two motors. Master motor (on the passenger side in the Altea) controls the slave motor (on the drivers side).

12volts constant supply goes to both motors, and they're fused separately. When you put the wipers on the ecu sends an activation signal down a separate wire to the master (passenger side) motor, then the master sends a signal to the slave (drivers) motor via a second signal wire. The signal wire tells the motors to work (in turn) and the motors use the supplied 12v feed to drive them.
