Oily throttle body

Hey all,

haven't posted in a while. I have a Cupra 4 VR6, but all cars have EGR and throttlebody nowadays.

Dunno if any of you have ever cleaned your TB's. If you did look at these pictures you'll see how oily my TB is. Does it look normal to you? I always thought passing oily air back into the intake tract doesn't seem too healthy. Especially for the thin intake runners the 24V VR6 has. After removing the TB there was even a small pool of oil resting at the bottom inside of the intake pipe just before connecting to the TB. This is how it looked like, and I also added a few pics of it after cleaning it.

Doesn't look too healthy does it. What do you guys think.

Xander

p.s. pardon the foto quality, a friends' P900 was all I had at my disposal.

hmm dude, my rover always used to do it - is there a pipe coming from your rocker cover to the throttle body, sometimes oil can travel up there i found.
Remedied it by fitting a piper X ecotek filter to the end of the pipe coming from the rocker cover as apposed to drawing air to the rocker cover thru the tb/filter.

re

You mean the EGR? I have a pipe running from the crankcase to the intake. a.k.a the PCV valve. That's the culprit. I didn't know it bleeds so much oil though.

I think that is what you mean. Dunno exactly what a rocker cover is.

yep, thats the one dude - i thought most cars did it, i only put a filter on the breather for a little extra power.

Well, what I'm going to do is instead of passing hot coolant fluid through the TB, I'll be routing cool water/alcohol fluid through it and adding an Aux intercooler.
Since I live in hot climates 24/7, TB heating is not required. With this mod the TB will be so cool you could actually touch it after hard driving. Furthermore I'll also tap off the breather/PCV/EGR and add a filter. So no more oil in the intake tract.
Effect = cooler, oil free, grime free air to the cylinders. A winnign comvo in any book.

You're right. Case of mental diarrea in this thread. Dunno why I mixed up the two. Anyways, it's 7 in the morning over here. In about 3 hours I'll be picking up my newly painted intake manifold and bolting it back on. I have taken the time to remove it all and clean the injectors too while I was at it. I don't have a breather filter yet though but one will be coming soon.

That looks nice. That's a mod I would want to try out! Is it a special kit, or did you buy the parts seperately? If so, where did you get the tank?

I also just finished redoing my engine bay. I also changed my fuel filter and cleaned my injectors. My car finally feels as new. No hiccups, no hesitations. Just raw power. It feels amazing. I repainted the intake manifold as well.
Here are some pics.

old thread I know but I recently bought a replacement PCV valve as I suspect mine is faulty but when checking the new valve it seems that you can suck and blow  air on either port, from reading previous posts this shouldn't be the case. Can anyone clarify?
