Oil Temp Wildly Fluctuating

Only happened twice in the last 6 months or so, oil temp is usually (when warmed up) in the 90's depending upon driving 'style'. Twice now its suddenly started fluctuating wildly from cold (after it starts registering the temp) anywhere in a range of 40 to 50 degrees rapidly scrolling up and down whilst driving normally e.g. between 95-145. Once cooled down its back to normal again and its only done it twice. I will get the dealer to look into it next year on its service but just wondered if anyone else had experienced this. Of course if I didn't have water and oil temp displayed in the LH dash area area I wouldn't have known this was happening!

I never faced such. Do you drive it aggressive to went so high ? But such differences I can't imagine to happen on a hot engine. ButI am not a technical person. Maybe a sensor issue ..

No I don't drive harsh but driven hard over hills the maximum may be 105-110. Certainly not 160+ when its misbehaving. I suspect an intermittent sensor issue and of course it won't happen at the dealers. Today...perfect, I will have to video it if/when it happens again.

For sure a video is a must! I had other issues and videos saved me.
I was wondering if OBDeleven has any history log for max temp of engine. But I don't think so.
Climbing is also loading the engine I would say more than 160 on a highway.
I would make a video and go to the dealer. For sure this must be checked. Even engine temp is not going so high it is still not ok your car to receive wrong information about that.
Crossing fingers !

Digital dash - with the top left and right view buttons on RH of steering wheel navigate to the left hand side of the dash. Use the scroll wheel to change the view until oil and water temp shows then press scroll (as ok) to set the view.

Yeah to be honest I found it once but it's just stupid being buried like this and having have multiple clicks, get rid of one widget to show another. It's insane.

It really should be part of the driving data main screen widget.

I cannot tell you how much I hate the whole system.

Strange thing today, thought I'd change the left clock centre view from water/oil temp and on initial change (before pressing scroll wheel to ok) the whole left clock centre section started scrolling all the view options very fast...on its own! It then stopped. If I thought the dash display was faulty I would have thought water temp would be scrolling as well as oil yet this never has. Needless to say to it didn't do it again and the oil temp fluctuation has only happened twice in nearly 2 years.

On a different tack I also noticed some users report fog light error sometimes showing on dash. Did it once to me about 18 months ago then never again...so far.

Only in the damp winter weather emergency braking assistance is 'reduced' due (I assume) to damp on the sensor which then goes off after driving a mile or so.

A friend with a 2 year old C4 has intermittent times when the heater only blows cold air. Starts the car up again and the climate system works as it should.

We live with intermittent electrical gremlins which are never present when the dealer looks at it.
