Oil level gone up

Have just checked the oil level on my Ibiza 1.6tdi cr and have noticed that the level is above the max mark on the dip stick. The manual says that when you check the level you push the dipstick in as far as it will go, which I assume means until it clicks into place. But when I check it, its above the max by about 5mm. If I push the dip stick in and stop just before the click the level is correct.
Any ideas anybody?

you have to put the stick maximun in en then pull out and then it have to be on max if its higher its not a good sign maybe you should take some of the oil on youre fingers and smell if it smells a little bit like diesel you have a problem and you should call the garage. is it the first time you check it or maybe someone did to much oil in it but then you also should take care and let the oil thats too much in it removed.

No have checked the level before. Had a new oil pressure switch fitted a couple of months ago to cure a leak and have checked the oil level since and it has been ok. Just happened to check it this evening and noticed that the level had risen.

If its only 5mm above the max its not the end of the world

Have you topped it up at all?

yeh techie you're right about that but normal you have about 1cm between min and max and thats a liter so 5 mm should be around a half liter i think thats to much to just come extra but just what you say maybe you checked ones when the engine had run and now when it was sitting quiet for a while

Probably about 0.2 litre over id say from experiance.

But i'd suspect checking error first.

Just did as normal and checked after 15 mile drive home from work. I let the car stand for 5 mins on flat surface and check level several times. Checked it this evening because it was doing a regen on the dpf and was idling a little more unevenly than normal when the car came to a standstill. Normally the uneven idling stops after a few seconds but tonight seemed to carry on. Understand what youre saying techie, but think will phone the dealers in the morning.

Forgot to say, no haven't put any oil in it.
The car is only 6 months old, so as I say, think it best to contact the dealers about it as I don't want anything to happen and be told it's my fault as I didn't check the oil.
