try a search as im sure its been answerd already many times. there seems to be alot of mixed views about this though!

ive just used the fuchs gsf stuff, 10w40 semi synthetic and seems fine(bout 14 quid for 5 litres). 5w is thinner and i think thats the only difference but not sure. also think 10w40 is better for higher milage cars???

The first number is the viscosity at cold temperatures - the lower the number will mean the oil is thinner so will take less time to lubricate the engine on cold starts.

The second number is the viscosity at high temperatures - the higher the number will mean the oil is thicker at higher temperatures.

I use 5-40 fully synthetic.

Same as above, im going to go for the silkolene 5w40 fully synethic stuff when the new tubby goes on. Currently using Motul 10w40 semi synethic oil, very good oil for the price, was about £25 for 5l
