Checked the oil on my wife's 2.0 TDI reference sport, special edition aero kit 18" seat sport wheels etc, anyway I was horrified by how little oil there was on the dipstick somewhere between minimum and a seized engine the car has done 5,500 miles is this normal ? also the exhausts tailpipes and the area around them are always really sooty, thoughts anyone ?

Regard's, Gordon

My Ref sport with aero kit has been topped up with 3/4Litre of oil and it had done 9300mls before it went for service and oil change, the exhausts do get sooty but cleaning it every week I dont get too much of a build up of soot :D

I thought these engined always used a fair bit of oil in the first 10,000 miles or so. Mine had about 1/2 a litre put in it around 6000 miles. Best check it again really, done another 1000 since then.

However, for the first 4000 it didn't seem to use any. mm.

Gordon,

I have the same car and after 10 months of owning it, I took a corner quite fast :D, and the oil warning light and sound came on. So, the oil level must have been quite low too. The car went in for a service two weeks later and the oil was topped up during the service.

It's now been a month since the service, I'll check the oil level again later. As for the sooty exhaust pipes, I've got the same problem. Best to wash at least every two weeks or it becomes a bugger to get off.

I had a passat before the Leon and that went through nearly 8 litres of oil before the first service, it was only a 2.0l petrol. VW said that was normal?
