My car is now due a oil change, my question is:

Can I do it myself? If not, can any garage do it who can stamp the service book?

Iv got the parts from SEAT "oil filter" and "sump plug"

EDIT: I wont bother doing it myself, but how about the local garage doing it? or does it have to be SEAT?

You could but don’t expect them to believe you when you hand the car back…..and get billed accordingly. You’ll have to check the terms and conditions of your lease agreement.

Understandable, I wont bother doing it myself how about keeping my receipt for the oil filter and sump plug then get it done by a local garage and get them to stamp it.

In theory EU Block Exemption Regulations 1400/2002 should mean you could use a none franchised garage, and even none genuine parts equivalent to the same specification - however don't know how this would work in a post-brexit world?

I would check the lease agreement small print carfully.

As above, I suspect the lease agreement will mandate a main dealer for this activity. Note also that the electronic service record can't be updated by all independent garages, although some good idependent VAG specialists can do so.

The last three lease cars I've had only specified genuine parts and VAT registered garages, but it varies so check the hire agreement you signed as it's usually in the headlines rather than buried in the long detail.

Make sure you keep the receipt for the handback inspection, even if you get a stealership service.

The EU block exemptions do not apply to the servicing of leased vehicles.

See question 7 in this document, its preamble, and the explanation that follows.

But to summarise, because the lease company has a vested interest in the future value of the vehicle it is entirely reasonable for them to require dealer servicing with genuine parts used if they choose to.

Why are you so against taking it to a Seat dealer?

If they’re anything like the ones I went to when I had SEATs then it’s because they’re sh#t. I avoid stealerships like the plague now. Even my M440i won’t see a stealership unless it’s for warranty work. Both SEAT stealers I used tried to rip me off so I’ve always used a specialist ever since.

You’d be better of asking your lease company direct. Surely they have already given you details in a contract In regards to service of the car. Have you read the terms on your lease about servicing?
Failing that can’t you ask your specialist how you should be servicing your lease car?

Righty, so I rang SEAT themselves, they said just keep the invoice and make sure its VAT registered thats all. They said its fine as long as the invoice is kept to track the service intervals for next users.
