Noticed when i parked up at home that i have a small rattle/knock from the front left hand corner of the engine bay.
It wasnt doing it this morning, so it has developed suddenly. Are there are common areas on the auxilliary system that are prone to rattling/knocking (as in tensioners) or any other ideas???

Thanks
Alex

The air con compressor pulley went wobbly on mine so it may be worth a look.

It is making it without the AC on? Would that still be a possibility.
Sorry for the silly questions. Still trying to learn a bit more about the car.

It is definitely more towards the front left. So around the alternator area. So could be that. Just odd it would happen suddenly!

A few more clues. It doesnt do it on startup- only when it gets warm??

It sounds like the tensioner to the left of the alternator. Looks like a small one which is good. Its wobbling a bit too so i think the bearing is going

Right im now pretty sure its the idle pulley tensioner bearing that has gone. It is the one that is connected to the metal body next to the alternator.
There is alot of information on the american VR5,VR6 forums- including a guide to remove it all, and repack the bearing with grease.

I am going to amuse myself and go down to Seat in a moment and ask how much the part is.

SEAT want £85 which isnt too bad actually. Only other place that will do it is Eurocarparts but they want £75 so worth going for a OEM replacement i think.
