odd boost reading?

after fitting my boost gauge last nite very quickly i have noticed a strange reading which i know isnt correct, i have not yet actually wired the gauge in ie: earth, illumination and power but just have the boost pipe plumbed in, with engine off it reads -0.5 bar, when engine is started it reads -1.2bar then when i drive and put my foot down it maxes out at around -0.7 bar? how can i be boosting negative values? could a pinch in the pipe effect this as it wont allow all the pressure through? is it because i havent wired the electrical side of it in? or is my car f****d? oh yes i have plumbed it in from the top of standard dump valve, that is correct isnt it?

There is no problem with that as the turbo pulls a vacum when iddleing and positive when boosting as expected.

yes but it doesnt seem to go over -0.7 bar, minus. surely thats not rite it wont even go above 0 bar to get into positives

Oh i see sounds like a faulty gauge then. Or i would hope otherwise you may have big problems. Does the car feel reponsive to drive or not?

would a kink or pinch in the pipe make this happen, and yeah is definatley responsive still its definatley boosting and u can hear it spooling up

Either a damaged pipe or more likely a faulty gauge

ok il change pipe tnite then see wat happens, mite av to get myself a new gauge, cheers for help

Wasn't this a cheapo item you bought, though?
That could well be the reason.
