Has anyone with an SPS+ sampled the effects of an octane booster on their timing advance?

Im looking at the Millers octane booster (around £4 for treating 50 litres) which suggests an increase of 2 RON. I already use Vpower which is a claimed 99 RON.

Since the new BP 102 RON is around £2.50 a litre and is sold nowhere near to me it seems like a good idea to use the booster - if i can get some higher timing settings from it.

I'm running B8 T4 at the moment. Got Vagcom also to log the effects......

When recently Googling for petrol reviews (i.e. Tesco 99 Octane vs V-Power etc), I found quite a few people advising against using octane booster products with modern premium fuels, because the additives can react with the booster stuff (technical term!) which might lead to nasty desposits in the engine. I'm no chemist, but it seems like a large risk for potentially small reward, to me...

oh eck!

I've just filled up the tank and stuck some Millers octane plus in. Lets hope nothing nasty happens....

I'm going to see what effects it has on my timing advance but think i'll do some more homework before using it more again!!!

The BP 102 RON is nothing new, it's been around at least 2 years I'm aware of.

It is sold near racing circuits as it's designed for racing rather than road use.

Mine is a tdi fr, I know its slightly different however I use millers and it seems to run better, try it with shell v-power and it doesn`t like it.
So in my experience they seem to clash:shrug:

if it's standard used 97 ron..the engine is designed to run on this..if you have a remap then run what they reccomend..it'll take and engine at least 1,000 miles for the ecu to refigure itselft to run on a higher octane...

I used this in addition to V Power a while back....it definitely made a noticeable difference, and my friend also tried it on his stg2 ibiza cupra, and also noticed a difference

Im curious in what way you felt it doesn't like it? I find i get more mores or more smiles out of a tank with both.

Haven't noticed any adverse effects.

What i'm hoping for is the ability to advance my ignition timing to get more useable torque/bhp through the rev range. As higher octane fuel is less susceptible to detonation i.e knock, then i should be able to up the settings on my Revo SPS+ switch and still run the car safely.

I'll hopefully be getting out on the road tonight with Vagcom so lets see.....
