Could fitting an interior LEDs cause the emissions warning light to come on?

Hi all,

Just a thought - a couple of weeks back I fitted an LED in the centre interior light (in the middle of the two map lights). I fitted it, tested it and left it at that - without starting the engine.

The next morning I went for a drive and the emissions warning light flashed up on the dash. The car feels no different (certainly not in limp mode, in fact running very smoothly with all this nice cold air!) and MPG has not changed (i.e. it is pretty dreadful!).

I had initially put this down to coincidence, but I've noticed a couple of threads where people have fitted LED tail/brake lights and had the same problem, presumably caused by a drop in voltage.

I have since taken the LED out and replaced with the standard bulb, then popped to my local mechanic who cleared the warning light with a universal code reader thing, but the light is back again (the car has been off the road since my first trip to get the fault cleared as I crashed on the way home at about 4 mph in the snow!!).

Any thoughts guys? I really don't want to buy a new lambda sensor if I don't have to, but on the other hand I want to book my car in for a remap in the next couple of weeks and want it fault free before handing it over.

Cheers,

Boz

No fault code found.

I removed the interior led, cleared the fault code and took it for a spin for 10 mins or so and so far no warning light! I will post again if it comes back, but (touch wood) it seems to have gone now, but I'm pretty sure it was the led that did it!

For anyone interested it was a 6 led festoon type in the centre interior light. Shame as it looked much nicer with the leds in!! Oh well.

Well at the very least you need a lambda sensor, get it cleared and see if it reappears before you go buying one tho. And there is a pre and post cat one, but I can't tell from that reading which one it is.

Front lambda sensor replacement - easy job?

Hi everyone,

I have ordered a new front lambda sensor and wondered if it is an easy enough job to do, bearing in mind I am partially retarded when it comes to all things mechanical?

Will I be able to get to it without jacking the car up?

Cheers all.

This is a weird one...

Today I got my car back after having the lambda sensor replaced to cure the emissions light on the dashboard, but since I've got it back I've noticed a few times that when I put my foot down the revs just gradually drop, dropping lower and lower gradually until I put the clutch in and give it some revs. After that it will behave for a while, then it will do it again. Quite scary when pulling onto fast roads!!

The bizarre thing is that before the sensor was changed the car drove faultlessly, despite the warning light. It's only since it has been changed it's started playing up.

Is it possible that the garage either fitted a cheap and nasty sensor (I requested Bosch so this is what they should have used), or failing that is it possible to fit it badly/incorrectly?

I'm going to another garage tomorrow to have the cambelt and water pump done, so I will ask them to take a look and check for any weirdness.

Has anyone else ever had this? I'm not sure it is limp mode, because I would have expected it to still accellerate (albeit very slowly) - instead it just drops the revs very slowly.

Help!!

I should add that I drove it 20 miles home from a mate's house tonight and it didn't reoccur at all. Is it possible the ECU is just readjusting and got freaked out?
