Oh ****, hope you get it sorted soon mate. I remember when i blew my turbo up :(, had white smoke pouring out the exhaust, and was not a nice feeling, especially as it was self inflicted, 145 for 10 mins on full boost, not a good thing.

Looks like debris damage to me. Doesn't look like it's got that hot, and the bore looks like there's a chunk missing at the base.
As mork says exhaust valves would normaly run hotter than the pistons, as pistons see nice cold air every second stroke, so valves usually fail first.

Heads off though and you've obviously looked.

The misfire in boost may be your trusty old maf. I burnt out a valve after I developed an intermittent in boost misfire, that turned out to be caused by a dodgy maf. Vag com logged it as OK at 3 logs/sec, but high speed logging showed a different story.

Wish i'd taken some pictures of mine when it was in bits like that, head gasket cooked on mine after doing 145 for 5-10 mins! had be driving hard for 3 hours previous too!!

found it to be stupid water pump in the end! was off the road for ages, but me and my bro doing it for a few hours every weekend we could!

Seat wanted a fortune to sort it, robbing gits!! in region of £2k! ended up costing me £600 with new cam belt kit and head gasket and cleaned up head and valves! runs a treat now!!

so know how it feels to have it in pieces!! looks so nasty

From Northampton JCT on the M1, then onto the M45 towards rugby, but it was about midnight at the time. Slowed down to maybe 120 as i come off the mway onto the M45 but then soon got back upto it, then all the way down the M45 as it was empty.

ch'yeah.. dont tell us, YOUR the one we ALL get stuck behind ....Sunday afternoon drive even in midweek, taking your Yorkshire terrier/poodle for a tootle round the lanes, with your 'tortoise( flat cap) on your head, no doubt...
dont tell any of us that you have NEVER crossed the speed limit.. never once pulled away from the traffic light grand prix in the hope of laying down the ponies quicker than the fella next to you....

Thats your own opinion, if it was a busy weekday then i could understand your point, but it was midnight, with hardly any traffic on the road, now shut up and get back on topic you *****.
