Number plates

Hoping somebody can advise me on style and size. I have just purchased my private registration from the dvla and need to buy some plates. I want something that looks smart (size and lettering) and also where to purchase them from.

Here is a picture of my car so you could use your imagination.

Any input welcome, cheers.

What size is your front plate WeeG?

I have a 14.5" (slightly smaller than it should be legally) number plate on the front, if I remember aslong as you have 6 digits it only needs to be 16x4.4" by law as the letters would still be of legal size. 5 digits only needs to be 13x4.4". Hope this helps.

Is that as small as the law allows ? or can you go smaller in relation to the number of characters
I have a 4 character plate and a 3 character plate, can I legally have made and use plates that are in proportion to the amount of characters ?

If so do you have a link to the relevant dvla/vosa info on what you can have as I could only find info on normal size plates

Its always good to have something official to show the dumb ass at the mot station that they are legal for road use

From the DVLA

For vehicles with new or replacement number plates fitted from 1 September 2001, “3-line” number plates are no longer permitted (except where the vehicle was first registered before 1 January 1973). In addition, the characters on number plates purchased from 1 September 2001, will need to meet the following specifications.
Character height 79mm
Character width (except the figure 1 or letter I) 50mm
Character stroke 14mm
Space between characters 11mm
Space between groups 33mm
Top, bottom and side margins (minimum) 11mm
Vertical space between groups 19mm

When you put a smaller plate what do you do about the previous plate mounting holes? My current plates are mounted right at the edges!

I didn't have holes in mine thank god. The only other way round it is to get that part painted.

Shaun-C-87 Where abouts did you get the 14.5" front plate from? After one for mine, but most come up at either 16" or as said above the smaller 13" ones.
