Now that i've decided i'm keeping it....(suspension help please!!)

...i'm going to be spending out a bit more money on the ibiza.

I'm putting new wheel bearings in the front soon, but before i get it all cambered up i'm also thinking about fitting coilovers.

I just wanted to know peoples opinions, should i spend a little more or are the cheaper versions good? Obviously i want them to last and not collapse 6 months down the line.

Hopefully i'll be tracking it more in 2008 so i want to make sure its handling is spot on (already got Spax lowering springs and shocks, Neuspeed ARB's, OMP strut braces and front polybushed wishbones).

I had a search but couldn't find what i was after. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Martin

Lots of people are using the cheap polo coilovers, they are pretty good at getting the car slammed on its ass but probably not very good for track use. I had custom built GAZ coilovers (costing the previous owner of them £550) and they were spot on. Completely adjustable including the stiffness and once the alignment was done they handled like a dream. Kermitcupra has bought them off me when I sold the valver so he might be good as a second opinion but I think he loves them too.

Heard some mixed reviews about the bottom end (cheap) FK's :(

And heard some very good thing about Tein coilovers but not sure if they make them for the Ibiza.

Not sure what Ben_16v and DaveCymru have fitted on theirs but I know their cars a lot on the track, as well as Roly and F2Stu so might be an idea asking them for their opinions..

Cheers Mig.

I'm not bothered about it being low. The ride height i have now is good, i just want it to handle better.

I know Roly is using FK's but not sure what ones. I guess i'll have to spend the money to get what i want.

Can anyone recommend any? I'm not really sure what's out there.

Good to see your keeping it mate I've fitted the cheap ones from Jackson Tuning off Club Polo on my girlfriends Ibiza if you want to pop over and come for a spin to see what there like they are height adjustable but not damping so quite hard it doesn't help that i have left hers quite low 2.

Cheers Tris. It'd be stupid to sell it really. Spent to much time and money on it.

Okay thanks, i'll keep that in mind. I've heard the Phil Jackson Tuning ones are good but not sure if i should spend out a bit more and get adjustable damping.

I remember you saying about the springs on yours. Well mate, if you're selling them i might be interested depending when and if i've got the money or not. I'm guessing the springs can be upgraded If i wanted stiffer ones?

Hahaha okay. I'm thinking i might get the camber done with the spax first and see how it handles, as when they were on yours it was amazing! It might just be the camber on mine why it handles badly.

FK are notoriously soft! i have had FKs on both my 1.4 and GTi.

I sold them and bought the club polo £200 coilovers (ibiza fitment, NOT POLO FITMENT) though, i wouldnt be using them for track mate, i just wanted a low car, with semi decent handling. does both.

Handling is fine as i dont drive mines too fast (Too low to drive fast) but stiff enough to take you round corners and improve on standard..

Basically - if your tracking it, id probably get a decent set up of springs/shocks, H&R perhaps, 50mm drop and very well balanced

I think i might stick with the Spax springs and shocks i have, but get the camber sorted as i don't think it's ever been spot on. Hopefully that'll sort it out, if not then i'll go looking at some better suspension when i have a bit more money.

Cheers for all your help.

Telford ay it...
Deffinatly hold out to get something decent, my FK's would have been way to soft for track use.............maybe due to how wound down they were.

If I could just afford some KW's myself

I got some nice kit for you Brum ;)
