Hi,

Just bought a nice Ibiza, which I've had for a couple of weeks, but I'm having a couple of problems, so hopefully looking for some advice :)

Twice now the power steering light has come on. It came on when I started the car, the steering feels a little heavy, but if I turn off and back on it is fine, until it did this again the other day, but again not since. Have had a garage connect a computer, but nothing logged. Friend had similar thing with a ford and it turned out to be the battery, so got mine checked and was told it seemed ok, but was not 100%. As it looks quite archaic, I thought I'd replace it anyway.

What I am after, probably me being totally blind and stupid, is how do I remove the battery? I have disconnected the terminals and can't see any obvious retaining clips, so I try to lift out the battery and it feels like the engine wants to come out aswell. Am I missing something really obvious? Also I understand the power steering fluid is there so was going to check that aswell.

Thanks for any info.

I had an 03 1.9 SE when it was two years old went into the stealers many times changed parts, but not the steering pump itself. Couldn't find the problem and continued to do the same.
Wouldn't let it bother you just live with it's not worth the time and money tryin to sort it.

He's wanting to know how to remove the battery though. I reckon this will be the cause of his problem, especially at this time of year.

On my car there is a retaining plate bolted down to hold the battery in place , the bolt is on the bottom of the battery box on the outside of the face closest to the radiator.

Mine you just lift out.

When you turn the car on does the red battery light come on, just out of curiosity.

Mine didnt and was fine for years, but eventually lead the bigger problems and resulted in having to fix the common problem of the load signal wire.

Hi,

Thanks for the responses. First chance had to get back on here since the weekend.

Eventually found the retaining bracket/bolt after looking properly and finding about removing the plastic housing. Have now swapped that battery and so far so good, touch wood, PAS light now stayed on since.

Thanks.
