Hi. I have a really really noisy exhaust on startup, and I think it's the secondary air pump. The only problem is, I don't think my car actually has one (Toledo 20V SE 2001).

Does anyone know where the pump is on a toledo? I've had a good look round in the engine bay and can't see it.

This is in the toledo section already. I've only linked to it in the leon section to try to get a bit more help with it.

hey mate think its normal as the engine is cold so automatic choke if you like makes it rev a bit higher resulting in it sounding louder on start up. i have a lcr with 3 inch ehaust and sports cat, and it sounds much louder on start up, then all is normal when engine warms up a bit.

my mates gti mark v golf is the same.

however if it does it when warm, as in if car is warm and you switch ignition off and then when u start it up right away then there might be something else up with it.

good luck.

the rivets on the sap come loose and vibrate on start up, a known vw fault.....

if it goes away when warmed and throws no fault light then i wouldnt worry.

my dp and cat rattlesa little when cold, but 2 mins and shes back to normal

sorry mate not to sure bout the secondary air pump on your machine. like its been said if all is well when warm then not to worry. could just be the cold weather making things more apparent. especially as parts are changing large temperatures in this weather from warm to very cold. monitor it and if it gets much worse than is then i'd worry.

sorry couldn't be more help.

Cheers for the ideas guys..

It seems that the Golf Mk IV platform cars are just naturally noisy then.... That is, until the revs settle down and all the parts expand a bit.

Can sometimes get embarassing when driving it around a car park when its just started and people look at you as if somethings wrong with your car.

Anyway, I guess at least they'll hear you coming
