Noises...

Got a couple of strange noises coming from my Ibiza.

1.This has only just started happening and is gradually getting more frequent. Its a ting sound as if something is heating up and expanding against something else. Or as the chassis twists under cornering or throttle/braking.

At first I thought it was the drivers seat base. Then this evening the car was off and I was looking underneath in the fuel cooler area and the noise happened again!

Sounds like its coming from near the rear of the fuel cooler but I couldn't quite track it down. Any ideas?

2. This one has been around ever since I've had the thing. Wide open throttle in 3rd / 4th gear from around 1750rpm up to 3000rpm there is a noise that sounds similar to a heat shield rattle. I can hear it, everyone else can hear it unless they work for Seat in which case they can't hear a thing.

It's not the undertray or pipework going to the IC.

Its only present on full throttle acceleration as is gone by 3000rpm.

I've had a look at the exhaust heat shield and none of it seems loose or anything.

Any ideas on that one?

them ting noises could be your exhaust cooling down it will ting and ping when youve been driving! and as for the weird noise between 1500rpm and 3000rpm it could be the heatsheild tapping the exhaust! or it could be near the manifold section behind the engine as its pritty tight round all them heatsheilds!

Its not like the exhaust cooling down its almost similar to when the bolts fell out of the dog bone mount on the leon

It's strange as it happens mostly as you pull away, I did wonder if it was engine mount related but would that make a noise after the car had been standing for a bit?

I think I'll have to have another look tomorrow and see if I can pin down the exact location of the noise..

no mount wont make a noise when its been standing for a while. finding a more precise location would make it easier to pin point your problem

if it feels like its hitting the floor and you can feel it with your feet its the same as i have, its not after ragging the car, just driving it for long enough that it gets to temp

Strangely it seems to have gone away now the weather has got a bit cooler let us know what they find on yours today

I managed to track the other noise down to the heat shield around the rear exhaust box. It wasn't hitting anything but it was resonating like a biatch at certain revs!

ive got a courtesy heap for 3 days then they said if it needs any new parts ill have to rebook in, so ill have to see in a few days whats happening

i get a ting oise from the dash when im driving think maybe its the heating

they think that the banging is coming from the steering rack and its the reason for my irregular tyre wear and tracking that chages its mind, so theyve ordered a new one, hopefully pick it up on friday

the rattling i got when going over bumps was because some spaniard left a screwdriver in the undertray at el factorio

fcuk me you must have some damn good ears to hear a screwdrive tapping the undersheild. new rack! under warranty?

Hi, I'm new here but have been reading with interest for a few days. My 11 month old Ibiza is going back to the dealers tommorrow as i have a deep "whoo"ing noise at 40mph its been happening for a while now but i have just decided to sort it out as i have some time off from work.

Anyone had this problem before? and if so can it be fixed?
