Hi guys,

Did a search on grinding noise but couldn't really get an answer.

Basically just had a country lane thrash and every fast corner i took that was tightish the car was making a really loud grind. It was doing this before, but one real sharp corner came up at 60ish and now it makes a real loud grind on even smaller corners??

Found that it might be EDL, but it just doesn't sound normal!

Any suggestions? (It's a 2001 Cupra btw)

Thanks

James

Is it lowered? Does it have bigger wheels?

It could be the arches rubbing?

No not lowered and it's on standard alloys!

Is it a case of taking the wheel off and having a goosie gander?!?

Kinda scary, but it's not a grinding under breaking it's just when cornering hard? Really strange!

Could it be the bearings??

Thanks,

James

wheel bearings in my experience have always whirred lol while driving at most speeds and more so in straight lines?

drive shaft, CV joint????!!!!! just trying to sound clever!!! on my last car which was a peugeot when i went round a corner it used to make similar noises and it was the CV joint.

IIRC a CV Joint needing replacement would make more of a knocking noise!

I think rather than pin point it on something as bad as these things, geta garage to look at it and then they should be able to confirm what it is

I still stick by something as simple as your arches rubbing or something as that can make a terrible noise! Although i cant see how it would do that on standard suspension but then again mine is standard and over really big dips at speed mine has rubbed so it could be that

Oh the other option is you dont do 60mph round tight bends ;)

But the sound is more from the back...they don't have CV joints do they? Or do they just have a sleeve??

Cheers for the replies, gonna jack it up and have a look when i get back to my trolley jack!

Check the tyre pressure....state of the tyre, nuts and play in the wheel......

rear wheels bearings are common...
