Noise from brakes when pulling away after heavy braking

Since changing my front pads and discs on my AP Calipers....if I brake quite hard and then pull away, I can hear a squaking type noise coming from the front left wheel as I pull away until I am upto about 10 mph or so.

What could this be? Surely I can't have a warped disc right after replacing them?

The pads have been on there for a couple of months now so I expect they have finished bedding in.

Its possible I didnt push the piston back far enough (I had a nightmare changing the brakes as one of the retaining pins was stuck and I had to dremel it out, so just wanted to get the job done). I dont understand why this would cause a problem tho.. :think: I just pushed the pistons back far enough to be able to fit the pads in.

Not sure, I'll have to look into that. I let someone else drive my car the other day and noticed that when they braked heavily, I could hear a banging noise in time with wheel rotation. But I've never heard this inside the car.

are the securing pins and pad retainer spring properly in place, as you said you had to dremmel????? out the old pin?

copperslip everything on reassembly?

yea but that was the other caliper than the noise is coming from. I got new pins from AP so they are all new, I suppose its possible the spring could be slightly out.

copperslip on the pad backs, lithium grease on the pins.

I've had the front brakes apart twice today and cannot cure this sound, although it has turned into something else. It is coming from the right side, and sounds like metal rubbing metal as the wheel goes round except when I brake.

I've cleaned brake dust out with toothbrush and brake cleaner, remounted disc on the hub, copper greased the pads and the parts in the caliper where the sides sit. It's undriveable now as the sounds is so bad and I don't want to risk it. Has anyone got any more ideas before I take it to Seat and get ripped off?

Part of the hole where one of the retaining pin sits is worn but it doesn't look like it would affect the pin, but could this be why? I wonder if I can fill it in with something or if it means a new caliper.

Could my EBC discs have warped after 1500 miles?

I have this problem also, only at small speed (upto 10mph and not when braking).

I went to my local garage and they said it's because they can't put asbestos in the brake pads anymore and instead put 'iron filings' in them and sometimes this gives this squeak.

I asked them if they could take them off and sand them down a bit to cure it, but they said it wouldn't make any diff, they said I would just have to live with it until it goes away [:@]

I've done at least 5k on these pads too :(

So basically they are too thick and you have to wait until they have worn down a bit?

My noise seems to be getting worse again :( Any ideas how to fix a sticking piston, if it is this? It's really hard to diagnose because the noise isn't there when jacked up, only when driving slowly, and even then it's difficult to pin-point the source.

Have you tried to free off the piston?
The pistons don't have a spring or anything to help these to retract back so if there are irregularities on the piston surface this will effect how easily it slides back into place.
Have you checked to see there are no restrictions in the brake pipes stopping the fluid getting back from that calliper to the reservoir?
Do you have twin, four or single pot callipers.
Could one side be sticking and the other freer as the above, being a restriction in the pipes between the two or four pots?

They are 4 pot, brake fluid was changed about 8 months ago but I had this problem before and after. It does seem intermittent, but recently has been getting quite bad. So if there is crud on the side of the pistons, they won't go back in I guess?

So I suppose the only way really, is to push the pistons out and make sure they are clean and free from dirt?

Try taking the calipers off and put ypur fut on the brake pedal to push the piston out and give the shaft on the pistion a good clean/degrease.
You could also try removing some of the paint on the sides of the pads sp they have a little more room in the caliper.

Yea think I'm gonna have to...I really hate working on these brakes tho lol

One question - will the pistons pop out if I push hard enough, and if so..will fluid come out and they be a bugger to get back in?

Not sure mate. But try it with the pads still in first and only push shem enough to get in to clean the shaft (anout half way down the pedal should do).

Just remember to pump the pedal once its all back to geather.
