No Heat From Heaters?!!

Just been out in the car but had no heaters?
Checked the water level and was low, filled it up but still got no heat after running etc.

There seemed to be a fairly steady stream coming from the expansion bottle, which i assume needs replacing and all water pipes checking and reclamping - is there anything i can put round the joints to help the seal?

Is there anything else that can/should be replaced at the same time as the expansion bottle?

:help:

The gauge doesn't get any higher than the middle and oil temps normal too.

I'm probably too late here but thought I would coment anyway!

Had this problem in my ibiza, had no heat at all coming from the heaters only cold air, really annoying as the windows steamed up like crazy! It also over heated on a really hot day sitting in traffic.

Turned out to be a broken water pump.

Hi,

am new to the forum and came across this forum this morning while I was looking for a solution to the same problem with the heater. In another thread it said to check the coolant level.
I checked mine and there wasn't any. So I topped it up and the heater was working again.

I joined this forum and thought I'd post this.

There is alot of interesting information on this site. I can't beleive I've spent almost 3hrs on it just reading.

If there wasn't any coolant in your car you might want to find out why

Welcome to the fun house!

hmm, never thought of that.

I've has the car since March 08 and I've never actually checked anything.
Yesterday when I topped up the coolant I also toped up on the oil as I had never checked that as well.

I'll check again in a day or two and see if there is a big difference. If it has lost alot then that would mean there is a leak somewhere and I'll need to have it checked out.

Thanks

Well, I just checked the coolant level and its gone to half. Am sure that is not normal. I had it upto the max line. Any ideas what this might be?

(Sorry am not sure if I should be starting a new thread)

I'd say dodgy thermostat possibly or a split in the radiator, you'd see and hear a split though it'd make a lot of steam and noise.
