Was driving around today and a warning light came on the dash. Got home to find i have no brake lights. Changed both bulbs, checked the 10amp fuse (no.13) which was fine, even changed it as a precaution but still no brake lights from either side or the tailgate brake light. Anyone know what else it could be ?

Almost definatley the break light switch (located by the pedals). Quite a simple fix, this happened to me not that long ago.

Hopefully someone with a better tecnhical knowledge will be able to explain how to fix it - I got my garage to sort it as I didn't have time to fix it myself and didn't fancy being without brakelights untill I got time!

yes, was just looking at that, looks like a purple switch that plugs into a black one. Sprayed it with WD40 and didnt help. Might try and take it out and spray it again.

I got to travel to london tomorrow for work so cant really get to a garage to get the part so need this working.

well managed to get to my nearest delaer (15 miles away) 5 minutes before the parts department closed and got a new brake light switch. Put it in and hey presto working brake lights.

I found that i had to remove the lower part of the dash\footwell to gain easy access to the switch (remove about 6 hex screws).

Just for future reference the part no. for the purple switch i took out was 1JO 945 511D and the switch i put in was black in colour and part no. 1JO 945 511A which seems to be a more simply design and was £9.55 inc VAT :D

happened to my Ibiza too ... easy to solve it :)

yes easy enough job, panic just set in when it was getting late, dealer being 15 miles away with very little time to get there. I have to leave for work at 4am and travel 175 miles to london. Didnt fancy doing all that millage without brake lights, especially in the sort out weather we been having lately........wasnt up for being rear-ended by a lorry or something

There is a guide on here on how to change the brake light switch. its very good.

You dont necesarily have to go to a seat dealer if you have a volkswagen audi or skoda nearer to you they can get the part in for you they have all the parts catalogues on computer.

not quite correct... i had a purple part on mine which became faulty. I contacted a Seat Dealer up north (from this forum) and was sent the said black part. It lasted 1 month before that became faulty.

AmD replaced mine with a new one (green i believe) which has been working fine for months

someone will correct me if im wrong....

Hi, i replaced mine last year with a black one, seemed to be fine. I was told it was the newer ones at the dealership.

could of been mine was dodgy but the new green one defiantly lights up quicker than the black part i had. get both in front of you and the black part supplied looks very stone age. the green slider is smoother than the black slider (felt like it had teeth you had to get past before it would slide freely)

yea it the black one did look very dated and the slider was stiff unlike my old 1 that had stopped working it was alot smoother and felt better made, i did question this at the time and the reply i got was the black one is the newer version? ah well.!
